Actual product may differ from the image shown.
In a residential air distribution system, a volume damper is installed to balance the air supply and distribution. The volume damper uses a simple wing nut and bolt adjustment system, near the exit of the supply air from the air distribution system (duct system), to make sure that the room/area is getting the specified amount of supply air. As the volume damper is fastened by a wing nut only, it can easily become loose causing precise balancing of the air system to be compromised. Often, the wing nut is inaccessible, hidden under dry wall, making it very difficult to precisely balance the air system. An unbalanced air distribution system causes hot and cold spots
in the house. Due to the limitation of having control over the positioning of the volume damper and subsequent lack of required supply air, the home owner ends up installing supplemental heating or cooling equipment in an effort to correct the energy imbalance. This is a huge waste of energy and money.
Our newly designed Self-Locking Volume Damper provides an economical solution to this energy balancing problem. Our product provides a unique and secure method for fastening the volume damper, allowing it to be easily rotated to provide the required air flow to precisely balance the air distribution system.
The Self-Locking Volume Damper comes fully assembled ready to be inserted between the supply air boot and sheet metal pipe. No field assembly is required saving on installation time and cost.
Many studies are currently being conducted on the effects of energy imbalance in various homes i.e. detached, semi-detached, town houses, etc. The findings will help educate home owners on the importance of air balancing. This data will be published in the next issue of this magazine.
The Self-Locking Volume Damper will be available soon, at leading HVAC distributors.
