Residential Air to Air Heat Pump System Design Course Launching Sept. 2024
This course teaches fundamental heat pump theory and develops the tools required to design, install, commission, and maintain a residential air to air heat pump system.
Foundational Explain the principles by which a heat pump operates and discuss the function of each component required in a residential air to air heat pump system.
Design Skills & Installation Design residential air to air heat pump systems in new construction and retrofit applications while addressing code requirements of a given dwelling.
Maintenance & Operation Develop a maintenance plan by evaluating manufacturer's manuals and good practice.
This course builds on the experience and theoretical knowledge of residential HVAC contractors, who are predominantly plumbers, gas fitters, refrigeration mechanics, and sheet metal workers. From mandatory prerequisite courses, students will already have completed TECA's heat loss & heat gain calculations course and Principals of Moving Air, and have experience with forced air heating and cooling system installation.
The Hydronic Systems Design course will be available in the Fall of 2024.
The revised course covers the entire design and installation process of hydronic systems, including sizing equipment, piping systems, and selecting heat emitters. New sections have been added which discuss expansion tank sizing, domestic hot water equipment selection, snow & ice melt, and pool & SPA design.
